Gewicht oplichtende blaas

Onderin deze glazen stolp bevindt zich een blaas waarin zich nog een beetje lucht bevindt. Als een gewicht op de blaas wordt gelegd en de stolp vacuüm getrokken, zal de lucht in de blaas uitzetten. Door de uitzetting van de lucht, tilt de blaas het gewicht erop omhoog. Dit is een van de vele experimenten die na de uitvinding van de luchtpomp werden bedacht om de eigenschappen van luchtdruk te onderzoeken en te demonstreren.
At the bottom of this glass bell-jar is a bladder in which is still a bit of air. When a weight is put on top of the bladder and the bell-jar is pumped vacuum, the air in the bladder will expand. Because of the expansion of the air, the bladder will lift up the weight. This is one of many experiments, devised after the invention of the air pump, to investigate and demonstrate the properties of air pressure.
