Creation of Adam
Pen and brown ink, brown wash, over traces of black chalk, on light tan paper. Framing line in pencil. Surface creased; small losses and tears. The verso discoloured through adhesive residue.

WATERMARK: Anchor in circle (fragment).
CHAIN LINES: 23-27 mm (v).
PROVENANCE: Odescalchi; acquired in 1790 (L. 2392).

The attribution to Trometta is based on the resemblance to the Battle of the Israelites and the Amalekites in the Baer Collection (exh. Atlanta, 1986, no. 7) and the Baptism of Christ in the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, Lisbon (inv. 429; photo Deutsches Kunsthistorisches Institut, Florence).
